MILDURA TRI-STATE played 7- 8 November, 2007

New South Wales had a great lineup for the Tri-State, which created a fabulous contest, both with SA and the Vics. The Men had trouble in their rubbers on the first day, (Reverse Doubles), going down to both SA and Victoria, 12 – 4 and 11 – 5 respectively. However, the "girls" held the team together with a crushing defeat over SA 16-nil, to lead by quite a margin, and Victoria11-5, levelling at 16 sets all, 141 games all.

Day 2 had all the pairs lined up against their same number, creating a great contest three ways. Victoria beat SA, and the NSW girls again made up for the deficit created by the guys. It was pretty close: only 7-9 vs SA, and 6-10 vs the Vics, with the girls coming up with wins of 15-1 and 11-5 respectively. The Mixed was really close, with NSW beating Victoria by 9 sets 114 to 7 sets 114. Against SA it was much more convincing, 13 sets to 3. Thus we had wins against both the other states. NSW takes home the Brian Bermingham Shield and the Bob McCarthy Shield. A sensational result!

Victoria won the Pat & Max Phillips Trophy, by 52 sets to 28 overall. It was a tight contest in the Men’s, with SA winning 12-4, 87 games to 64 on the first day and having 8-all on the second, 69 games to 70. The Vics picked up the Mixed and the Ladies to clinch the trophy. Another great contest!

The Dinner Dance on "The Mundoo" (paddle steamer), proved to be a "hit" – thoroughly enjoyed by all. The music and the food were both unbeatable, and it seems people want to do it again next year, a good choice and great organising by NSW committee person, and social organiser Margaret Biddle.

As the host state this year, NSW was responsible for the smooth running of every detail. The other states agreed that is was a job well done! It was a combined effort, with thanks to "non members" Carol Daniel and Pauline Haney, who assisted Val Angel and Robyn Castle on the desk. Best of all – wonderful play by all out on the court!...Winners are Grinners!
