For the 2007 Australian Seniors Tennis Championships
The ITF 2007 Australian Teams and Individual championships are
to be played in the beautiful City of Perth in Western Australia,
in January on what is regarded as the best grass courts in
Australia.
The interstate team events start on Sunday 7th January 2007 and
the individual age championships ending on the 19th
January.
Events for each age group starting from age 35’s then a new
group every additional 5 years up to the 80’s for the super senior
men.
Men and Women will compete in singles, doubles, mixed and
combined ages that could result in some 57 events.
Teams and individual players will come from all over Australia,
New Zealand and from overseas. (NZ is only across the ditch) TSWA
is expecting about 700 players to compete in annual events.
There’s more, the entertainment. The Opening ceremony and night
B-B-Qs, and the Official Dinner Dance and Prize Night plus the
excitement of greeting old friends (sorry there are no old people
in Senior Tennis).
Perfect weather is expected, as this is the January summer
season with the expected "Freemantle Doctor" the afternoon breeze
cooling the afternoon matches (we hope).
Robertson Park Tennis Centre is the head quarters for the
event, and is owned by the host’s Tennis Seniors WA. The
centre was extensively up graded for the 2005 ITF World Seniors
Championships and was highly praised by the internationals as
‘One of the Best’.
TSWA were magnificent hosts and provided excellent transport to
the other courts. Robertson Park is an easy walk from the
centre of the City, it took me about 20 minutes.
NSW won the team championship trophy in 2006 but I expect that
WA will be the danger in 2007 after witnessing that the world
championships interest in Senior Tennis is booming.
In fact the Baby Boomers are hitting the courts in huge
numbers, everywhere, as having off loaded the kids and with more
time on their hands they are ready to play. ‘Have racquet
will Travel’.
There is a report that states there are 4,858,839 people in
Australia aged between 45 and 64. ‘Yes’ Baby Boomers who have
witnessed the glory years of Australia’s Tennis.
What are we doing to promote Tennis to this group???
Perth is referred to as the "friendly city" and Astronaut John
Glenn on his historic fly- over called Perth the ‘City of
Lights' .
Located on the Swan River Perth it is a modern City yet still
has pockets of historic buildings that show it’s dating back to
it’s original British settlement in 1828.
Perth was originally discovered by Dutch navigator Dirk Hartog

taste the wines and enjoy the beautiful foods of WA. It’s a
beautiful country side, Go see it.

Transit Zone.
There is also a free bus service in the Central Area Transit

They are air-conditioned and are red, yellow and blue and run
every 5 to 10 minutes.
When in WA don’t for get to say "G’Day Mate. How did you play?
Well. Don’t worry 50% of us were beaten but we are still
playing",
