There are many seniors tournaments to choose from around the world. In Australia each state and territory conduct a state championship event sometime during each year. In total there are over 140 ITF sanctioned seniors tournaments throughout the world which are well patronised, particularly in the USA, UK and Europe during their summer season (our winter). You can follow the tournament trail from one week to another competing in these ITF sanctioned events and earn ranking points which stand you in good stead for seedings at tournaments and for selection to represent your country in the ITF Team Competitions also held annually in the various countries of the world. Australia is well regarded in these teams events and always performs well. Australia hosted the Group "B" ITF teams cups in April 2001 - Group "B" being for men and women 55+, 60+, 65+, 70+ age groups and in addition for men aged 75+ and 80+ age groups. Six of these cups were played in Perth, two in Adelaide and two in Melbourne - all very successfully.
For those players not able to travel overseas, the 4 events of most interest to South Australians are the SA Seniors Ch'ships, the Australian Carnival, the Berri Teams event and the Tri-State Challenge - read more about these thru' the links at the left.
A Calendar of Events for all Australian tournaments is printed each year by Tennis Seniors Australia and is freely available through all state secretaries - contact our secretary Janet for your copy.
A Seniors Calendar of Events is printed by the ITF each year listing all seniors tournaments throughout the world with details of the venue such as the court surfaces, closing date for entries, days of play, phone and fax numbers of the tournament secretaries etc. This is also available free on request to our secretary Janet Wang.
