Tribute to Alison Ide
Anyone who has been around Seniors Tennis for any length of time
will have heard of the sprightly but frail 70+ year old from the
ACT.
She was a fantastic tennis player, administrator and
person. In the past 30 or so years, she has won numerous
national seniors doubles and mixed doubles titles, has been
Australian Veteran Tennis Player of the Year (1986), been
President of ACT Tennis Veterans/Seniors for many years, been
recognised nationally with an OAM (1997), been an Australian
Tennis Seniors Administrator of the Year (2000), been Secretary
of Australian Tennis Seniors (1998-2003), made a Life Member of
Australian Tennis Seniors (2003), and even as recently as 2006
won a World Doubles title in the 70+ age group.
A remarkable lady, Alison just loved her tennis and was still
having the odd hit in recent times despite her illness. A tribute to Alison from Anne Haycock, one her close tennis friends, appears on the ACT Tennis Seniors web site.
