2012 Australian Seniors Claycourt Championships,

Entries are now available for
the Australian Seniors Claycourt Championships
to be held at the Dendy Park Tennis Club, East
Brighton, Victoria. They will be run from the
9-12 March and the closing date for entries is
22 February, 2012.

2012 Australian Seniors Individual Championships, Perth

Two weeks of outstanding tennis
was completed with the staging of the finals of
the Australian Individuals Championships in
Perth Western Australia. This was one of the
first Australian tournaments to use the IPIN
entry procedures and despite a few initial
teething problems, all entries were successfully
processed.

ITF sanctioning for WA Champs 2012

Tennis
Seniors Australia are very pleased to report
that the ITF has approved the Tiger Turf State
Championships for 2012, as an ITF 5 event. There
had been some doubt about the status of this
tournament due to confusion about the submission
of the original application by closing date.

2012 Australian Seniors Teams Championships, Perth

The
Australian Teams Championships trophy was won by
NSW (65.08% of set won) from ACT (53.64%) and
Qld (53.48%). The grading of teams in ten-year
age ranges produced the closest
competition in the Teams Championships for many
years. The variability between scores of
competing teams, that is, the great winning
margins between teams was the lowest in the past
five years.

Tennis Seniors Australia Administrator of the Year
for 2011

Former TSA Secretary Tom Hancy
was recently awarded the Tennis Seniors
Australia 2011 Administrator of the Year.
Tom was recognized for his 43 years of unbroken
service in various capacities, predominantly to
Ringwood and Park Orchards clubs where he is a
life member, and of course also to Tennis
Seniors Australia for the magnificent
contribution he has made as Secretary over the
past three years.

Tennis Seniors Australia Player of the Year
for 2011

At the Presentation Dinner
following the Australian Teams Championship in
Perth, Glen Busby was awarded the Tennis
Seniors Australia 2011 Player of the Year.
Glen is currently the number 1 world ranked
player in the 55+ age bracket and has had a
string of successes in Europe and Australia
this past year. He was also captain of the
Austria Cup team which won in the World
Titles in New Zealand earlier in the year.

New Executive Committee for Tennis Seniors Australia

A new Executive team for Tennis
Seniors Australia was voted in at the Annual
General Meeting held in Perth during the
Australian Seniors Championships in January
2012. New President
Reg Trevaskis is seeking input from senior players
on various issues that may be impacting on declining
membership and participation levels (eg
whether to increase social
play opportunities, whether to split the
Australian Teams Carnival from the Individual
Championships, and whether to reduce the
potential amount of tennis to be played in the
Teams Event by, for example, playing short sets).

New Selection Panels announced in Perth

New Selection Panels for 2012
were announced at the Annual General Meeting of
TSA held in Perth on the 11th January. The
selectors who take office from the 1st May 2012
include three new faces in Jo Walter, Bobbie
Edwards and Colin Holgate. TSA are most
grateful for the diligent work of the three they
replace (Andrew Rae, Lyn Mortimer and Wendy
Weir).
