Twilight Competition

2009-10 twilight

Under threatening skies at the National Sports Club, Lyneham on 29 March, Tim Harris' team avenged their only loss for the season by defeating Kerry Scarlett's team in the final 5 sets 45 games to 3 sets 33 games. This was the second year running that Tim had captained the winning team.  The team was from left to right in the picture - Tim Harris, Pat Hanrahan, John Funston and Scott Simm.

The match started well for Tim's team with Tim and Scott Simm winning their first two sets against Kerry and Mick Terry 6-3,6-2.  On the other court, Pat Hanrahan and John Funston (reserving for Garry Buchanan) for Tim's team got off to a good start winning the first set  6-3 against Phil Dunn and John Mapley and led 5-3 in the second before going down 7-6.  In the reverse matches Tim and Scott won their first set against Phil and John 6-0.  However in the second set they had to save a set point on John's serve before taking the set 7-6.  Mick and Terry had to work hard to win their two sets from Pat and John 6-4, 6-4.

Kerry's team made the final by just half a set winning 3 sets in the last match while Peter Breugelman's team had the bye. Don Tucker's and Mark Spain's teams were not far behind.   Pictured from left to right, John Mapley, Mick Terry, Kerry Scarlett and Phil Dunn.
