We sadly advise of the passing of Brian Hurley on 14 January aged 94.  Brian was a long term member of TSACT starting in veterans tennis when the movement began in 1970 and was still playing at national and international levels in his 80’s.  He won a number of national and international veterans titles and has represented Australia at the World Titles.  A requiem mass was held in St Mathew’s Catholic Church, Page on Tuesday 21 January. He was then buried at Gungahlin Cemetery, Mitchell.  Our condolences go to Brian's wife Kathleen and his family.

 

We sadly advice of the passing of Peter Macnicol, a former member on 27 December 2019 aged 89.  Peter was the husband of long term member and former Treasurer, Pat Macnicol.   Peter was privately cremated.  A memorial gathering for Peter was held in the Margaret Whitlam Pavilion at the National Arboretum on Thursday 23 January.  Our condolences go to Pat and family.

The 2020 Australian Seniors Team Carnival and Individual Championships are being hosted by TSWA from 5-17 January at Busselton and Bunbury Tennis Courts. Congratulations to the ACT women's 55 and men's 65 teams on winning their sections of the Teams Carnival.  . Congratulations to Pat Moloney on being named the Most Outstanding Tennis Senior 35+ at the Tennis Australia Awards and Newcombe Medal  Presentation held in Melbourne on 2 December.  Pat was nominated for the Australian Award after receiving the Tennis ACT Award as the 2019 Most Outstanding Tennis Senior 35+ on 14 September. Peter Roberts and Graham Bartlett were inducted into the Tennis ACT Walk of Fame at the TACT Awards  Presentation on Saturday 14 September.

 

The first Sunday round robin tournament for 2020 is scheduled for 16 February  - venue to be advised.  This is your chance to have the jump on the others for the 2020 for the Venezuela Cups.   There will be no tournament in December.   more... 

 

The  TSACT Christmas Dinner was held on Saturday 14 December at the Yowani Country Club, Lyneham. There was a good turn out with 78 members and guests. Yowani again put on their excellent two course buffet  Congratulations to the award winners.  Neville Rodwell won the Frank Thornton Player of the Year, Warren Muller won the George Henshilwood Award and Bronwyn Thomas and Greg Hunt won the Venezuela Cups as winner and runner up respectively from the Sunday Round Robin Tournaments.

 

The Annual General Meeting of Tennis Seniors ACT was held at the Canberra Tennis Centre, NEXT GEN Board Room, Lyneham, on Wednesday 7th August 2019 at 6.00 p.m.  The President’s and Treasurer’s Annual Reports for 2018/19 and the Draft Budget for 2019/20 were tabled. There were no changes in the Executive or the general committee with the exception of Gail Jones who did not stand.

2
